 "Tis good so far" 2010-02-15

Have the 500 GB (HDDR500E04XL) for about two weeks with no problems although the USB cable would really be better if it was even 6 inches longer. It's being used on a iMac for Time Machine. I didn't even look at the software stored on it. I just let the Mac erase it and format it to what it wanted. It managed to write 51 GB in less than forty minutes. The hourly backups are 100 MB and takes about a minute or two and does not slow other programs down. It's quiet and has not heated up. I am running the Toshiba off of a powered USB hub. I don't if this makes a difference or not. The main reason I decided on external drive is that most everything is either too big or too time consuming to back up on DVD's and CD's. I wanted a USB powered drive because I didn't another cord to plug in. The small slim size also worked out well for the desk arrangement. So far I am very satisfied with this product so far.

 "Didn't work" 2010-02-14

Nothing happened when I plugged it in (Win XP Dell laptop with a USB 2.0 4-port extension). Restarted and tried again - same story. The laptop just doesn't see this drive (the drive's LED lights up, though). I'm returning it and will not buy another Toshiba drive.

 "Very good stuff" 2010-02-14
By Slavo C (Warsaw, Poland)
Pros: Very good stuff, lightweight, efficient, high transfer speeds, no heat even when long working hours

Cons: For some reasons sometimes transfer vary from 30 Mbytes/s to 4 and then back to 30, especially at the end of the transfer

Overall : 9/10

 "My first external drive" 2010-02-13
By Andrew D. Schulz (Wisconsin)
Decided to finally get an external drive now that we have multiple computers with our main one being a laptop. Worked fairly quickly and is actually smaller than I thought it would be. Got it at a decent price, would recommend for just about anyone.

"Toshiba 320 GB External Drive" 2010-02-13
By Kay Wolman
This is the second drive I've bought from Toshiba. They are easy to set up and I use mine with Apple's Time Machine software for backups. Works great, is usually very quiet (occasionally I've heard a hum), and the size makes it easy to carry from one machine to another. No reason to lose the contents of your hard drive when there is a failure when storage is this fast and cheap.
